Hot off their assembly line, Multi-Tech now offers the Cellular Development Platform (CDP) device for every major network. This device allows for customization, development and configuration of the hardware to meet strict requirements when other “out of the box” solutions may not suffice. In some scenarios it will allow for the replacement of additional hardware and software, given this allows for development and deployment of applications running directly on the modem. Both the CDP and rCell now have GPS capabilities as well.
DH Solutions offers custom application development services on devices such as the CDP.
Sierra Wireless has released a new device with the ability to upgrade it to 4G (LTE). There are a number of hardware changes on this model that have not been implemented on previous Sierra Wireless modems. The GX400 has an expansion port that allows you to add either WiFi capability or additional I/O ports. Once upgraded to the LTE technology, it will then be dubbed the GX440. Please visit dhm2m.com for additional information and to download the data sheet.
When utilizing the newest firmware for your Sierra Wireless device, you will now have the ability to set up reporting and alerting on device data usage. An example would be if you had a 500MB plan, the device could be configured to send out a notification via email or SMS that the device has used 80% of the allotted data for the billing period. The device can also be configured to stop passing traffic once the device hits 99% of the plan--provided data usage. This is a very helpful tool and could assist in controlling plan overages and runaway data usage scenarios. If you have questions regarding the configuration for this, please contact DH Support.
A new firmware release by Sierra Wireless is slated for August, version 4.0.10. The details have not been thoroughly defined, but a correction to version 4.0.8.003 that was causing issues when connecting to a Cisco ASA are expected. Stay tuned for additional information.
Now that the Stuxnet source code has supposedly been released, we continue to urge our customers and partners to ensure default passwords are not being utilized on their production devices. Prior to shipping devices we can certainly update passwords to your preference. Other custom configurations can also be applied at this time.
Airlink Management Services (AMS) will be the successor of the AceNet utility. AceNet is used to manage multiple modems without the need to connect to each modem individually. Whether you need to adjust a setting on your entire fleet, update the firmware or a PRL, AceNet has been the tool for Sierra Wireless modems. AMS will be replacing this tool and there are many changes that greatly expand the overall functionality. Sierra Wireless recently announced it is now in beta. If there are any current AceNet users that would like to receive an overview of AMS please contact us for a webinar.
